This week\u2019s episode: <strong>The Salty Truth About Our Well<\/strong>  also known as <em>\u201cWhy Plan B Should\u2019ve Been Plan A All Along.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"So_heres_how_it_went_down\"><\/span>So here\u2019s how it went down.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>We needed water for the house no big deal, right? We live in rural Thailand, the land of rice paddies, fish ponds, and more rain than your laundry can handle. Everyone around us said, <em>\u201cJust drill 20-30 meters. No problem!\u201d<\/em> Even the local experts gave us that familiar Thai smile and a confident nod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But deep down, I had that gut feeling:<br><em>\u201cEric\u2026 don\u2019t be cheap. Go at least 50 meters or more. Deeper is better.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did I listen to myself?<br>Of course not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why would I, when every neighbor, cousin, and soi-dog in a 5km radius swore up and down that 30 meters was plenty?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we drilled.<br>And we found water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Salty_water\"><\/span><strong>Salty water.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Not just a <em>little<\/em> salty we\u2019re talking enough sodium to make a bowl of instant noodles jealous. Good enough for the fish maybe\u2026 but for showers, washing dishes, or a refreshing glass? Forget it. Unless you&#8217;re into brine-based skincare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Enter_Plan_B\"><\/span><strong>Enter: Plan B.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>320 meters away, right along the main road, lies the government water supply. We always knew it was there  the \u201cjust-in-case\u201d backup that we hoped we\u2019d never need. But now? It was either hook up to that sweet, drinkable main supply or invest in a home desalination plant and start selling sea salt on the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, we did what any self-respecting, slightly stubborn expat-farmer hybrid would do:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"We_ate_humble_pie_and_called_the_village_headman_and_looked_for_some_laborers\"><\/span><strong>We ate humble pie and called the village headman and looked for some laborers.<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>After we got the ok, we rented a small excavator and started laying pipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udcb8 27,000 baht later for 320 meters of shiny new pipe&#8230;<br>\ud83d\udcb8 Plus another 1,000 baht for the water meter install&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And voil\u00e0! Fresh water straight from the tap. Clean, reliable, and utterly non-salty. Pure bliss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_the_lesson_here\"><\/span><strong>What\u2019s the lesson here?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Well\u2026 don\u2019t always listen to \u201ceveryone,\u201d especially when your instincts tell you otherwise. If you know your region has deep brackish layers, just pay the extra up front and drill deeper. Trust me <strong>salty regret is a flavor you only want once.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But hey what\u2019s farming without a few missteps, right? We laughed. We cursed.
