Right now, between our two ponds out in the Chumphon Buri district, the skeleton of our Thai <em>sala<\/em> is taking shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who don\u2019t know, a <em>sala<\/em> in Thailand is an open-sided pavilion, usually built for rest, shade, and social gatherings. They can be found in temples, along roadsides, or on farms like ours. It\u2019s not a house  it\u2019s more like a breathing space, somewhere you sit back, sip a drink, share food, or just escape the midday sun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Stage_One_The_Frame_and_the_Roof\"><\/span>Stage One: The Frame and the Roof<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see in the photo, we started with the basics , the steel framework and the roof. That was the priority. Out here, shade is everything. The roof went up first so that when we work on the rest of the build, we can do it comfortably, even under the hot Isaan sun.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"771\" src=\"http:\/\/www.city2farm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/63285_0-1024x771.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-250\" style=\"width:326px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The framework was actually put up by the same construction workers who are going to build the patio behind our house. They handled the heavy lifting and welding, making sure the base and roof were solid. It\u2019s not finished yet, and honestly, that\u2019s the point. The sala is going to be a project that grows with us. Right now it\u2019s just bones and shelter, but soon enough it will become the heart of our little farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Future_Plans_A_Family_Project\"><\/span>Future Plans: A Family Project<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The next steps will be slower, and maybe more fun:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Solar for the ponds<\/strong> \u2013 We\u2019ll install panels on the roof to power water pumps for both ponds. That way, the sala becomes not just a place for us, but a working hub for the farm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A simple toilet<\/strong> \u2013 Out here, you don\u2019t want to walk back to the house every time nature calls. A small corner bathroom is going in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Furniture<\/strong> \u2013 Benches, a table, maybe even a hammock or two. Nothing fancy, just enough for comfort.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>My brother-in-law and I will handle most of this ourselves. And let\u2019s be honest: the real tools will be a few cold beers and a Bluetooth speaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Dream_Quiet_Sundays\"><\/span>The Dream: Quiet Sundays<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the work is done, I can already picture it. A quiet Sunday, fishing rods leaning against the sala, the smell of BBQ drifting across the pond, Boom laughing while she grills fish, the dogs stretched out in the shade. Solar powering the pumps, the sound of water flowing, and us finally doing nothing at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s the real purpose of this sala, not just a roof and steel posts, but a place for memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the best part?
